Way way way more studio football punditry than can be counted… …but still don’t understand the offside rule.

World-leading technologies peaked with the Mixed-Reality Studio F set from 2013-2017, lead by Director Duncan East and Producer Scott Melvin:
- Sky’s first million-pound Production.
- Featured Live walks for the Presenter (Ed Chamberlin and Dave Jones) around a 3-sided entirely virtual Green-Screen area out into a Real studio immediatly adjacent - very technically challenging to change environment in-vision.
- 24x Motion Analysis cameras providing 6-D positional data to 3 cameras (first production run of Sony 4300 cameras) each with Ultimatte & Viz-RT graphics to give 360-degree VR and AR virtual set, together with the abilty to weave through life-size player line-ups
- Major technical challenge to get this system to reliably track smootly, requiring frequent recalibration.
- In addition, the VR keying requires significant light levels, but the small size of the studio makes seperation challenging, together with a low ceiling makes the inverse square law not your friend. And then the all this green light needs to be kept from the real set - and even worse, the matt black floor real floor, which was a nightmare to keep clean and perfect.
- The solution to this last problem was discovered by Richard, and it was to avoid perfection - don’t try and make a real floor perfect to match a virtual one, instead make the virtual one a bit messy and scuffed-up, then the transition isn’t so obvious.
- If getting all that kit working once wasn’t hard enough, the entire production, with all its tempremental parts had to be rigged from scratch every time, in just one day. An element that was a constant point of disbelief by technical visitors from other television networks from around the world.
